Long Term Results of Morton's Excision |
A study by Womack, Richardson, Murphy, et. Al, from the University of Tennessee, published in Foot and Ankle Int., June, 2008 found that only 51% of 120 patients who had a Morton's entrapment (Neuroma) excised had a good or excellent result. 10% reported a fair result, and 40% had a bad result. These authors are from the department of orthopedic surgery at the Campbell clinic--a very prestigious clinic.
These findings confirm our clinical experience that removal or excision of the entrapped nerve is NOT a good surgical procedure. This condition is caused by a pinched nerve, and decompression (removing the compression) has a much better success rate (90%) with almost minimal complications. Refer to the EDIN procedure. |
