Dr. Barrett is board certified in foot and ankle surgery by the American Board of Podiatric Surgery. He is also board certified by the American Board of Podiatric of Podiatric Orthopedics and Primary Podiatric Medicine. Dr. Barrett is a United States Patent holder for the development of two endoscopic surgical procedures: endoscopic plantar fasciotomy (EPF) and endoscopic decompression of intermetatarsal nerve (EDIN). He has trained more than 4,500 surgeons throughout the world in these techniques, and his EPF technique is featured in Campbell’s Operative Orthopedics, which is considered a seminal textbook in Orthopedic Surgery. Dr. Barrett is a contributing editor for the Journal of the American Podiatric Medical Association, and serves on the editorial board of Podiatry Today. He is considered by his peers as an expert in heel pain, and has additional focus in lower extremity peripheral nerve surgery for the management of pain syndromes and diabetic peripheral neuropathy. Dr. Barrett is active in clinical research and teaching, and last year performed the first diabetic peripheral nerve decompression in Barcelona, Spain at a University teaching conference on closed circuit television for 74 of Europe’s top surgeons, neurologists, and endocrinologists. He has published 29 articles in peer reviewed medical journals, authored several chapters in medical textbooks, and has also co-authored a textbook on the interpretation of Neurosensory testing.
